Bass Trap Placement: Where to Put Them for Tight Low End

If your low end booms on some notes and disappears on others, and if a mix that felt punchy at home sounds thin elsewhere, your room modes are the culprit. Bass traps are the fix, but placement decides whether they earn their space. This guide explains where to put them, why corners do the heavy lifting, and how thick they need to be.

Why small rooms have a bass problem

Low frequencies have long wavelengths. A 50 Hz tone is nearly seven metres long, far bigger than most home studios. These waves reflect between parallel surfaces and reinforce or cancel at fixed points in the room, creating room modes. Why corners do the work
